Apple CEO Tim Cook took to social media to tease a new product launch this week, fueling speculation about the highly anticipated M4 MacBook Air. He shared a short teaser video on X simply stating, “There’s something in the Air,” a likely nod to the MacBook Air line.
“This week,” Cook captioned the clip.
The new MacBook Air is expected to feature Apple’s latest M4 chip, offering several notable upgrades over the current model.
According to various reports and rumours, the upgrades in the M4 chip MacBook include:
- Increased RAM: Support for up to 32GB of RAM, compared to the current 24GB limit.
- Faster performance: Two additional CPU cores and faster memory bandwidth.
- Improved camera: A 12MP Center Stage camera for better video calls.
- Enhanced external display support: The ability to power two external displays while also using the built-in display.
The new MacBook Air is expected to retain the same 13-inch and 15-inch designs as the current model.
New iPad Air may also launch this week
While the focus is likely to be on the MacBook Air, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested in his weekly newsletter that a combo announcement with a new iPad Air is also possible. Inventory of the current iPad Air is reportedly dwindling, making a refresh likely.
Interestingly, Apple’s tagline, “There’s something in the Air,” goes back to the launch of the first-ever MacBook Air in 2008, adding a nostalgic touch to the announcement.
This comes days after Apple’s most affordable iPhone 16 series phone, the iPhone 16e, went on sale globally.
