TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A Topeka organization dedicated to helping those living with AIDS or HIV is expanding their reach.
Positive Connections cut the ribbon Wednesday on its new mobile testing unit.
The group works to help people access testing, education and other resources for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and is excited to bring that mission to as many people as possible.
“Obviously, we can’t be in all of those counties all the time, and some of them are small enough they just don’t have the healthcare infrastructure they need to do STD testing and education,” Vice Chair of the Positive Connections Board, Brendan Jensen, explained. “Part of what we’re trying to do with this mobile unit is take everything we have in our building out into those communities and provide services they just don’t have there.”
Positive Connections was originally formed in 1987, when it was known as the Topeka AIDS Project. It now covers 17 counties in Kansas.
