The new MacBook Air is coming. Apple CEO Tim Cook has teased the launch of a new device in the company’s Air lineup. In a cryptic post on X, Cook shared a short video with the phrase, “There’s something in the air,” accompanied by a caption stating, “this week.” While the teaser suggests that Apple is preparing to announce a new product imminently, according to reports, it will likely be the anticipated MacBook Air powered by the M4 chip.
Earlier, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in his latest Power On letter, suggested that Apple is getting ready to unveil the M4-equipped MacBook Air early this month. And now, the teaser further hints at its coming launch. Notably, the upcoming MacBook Air is expected to bring significant upgrades compared to the M3 MacBook Air launched in 2024.
The upcoming MacBook Air with M4 is expected to come in both 13-inch and 15-inch variants and feature Apple’s newest silicon. The new M4 chip will offer upgraded performance and efficiency. Alongside the new chipset, the MacBook Air M4 is expected to include Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 12-megapixel webcam with Centre Stage, and improved battery life. Apple could also bump the RAM, with a minimum capacity of 16GB and a new maximum capacity of 32GB compared to the 24GB limit on the M3 MacBook Air.
Notably, Apple’s use of the phrase “There’s something in the air” itself hints at the launch of the new MacBook Air, as the company previously used the same tagline during the launch of the first-ever MacBook Air in 2008.
More to expect this month
Meanwhile, apart from the MacBook Air, Apple is also rumoured to be working on a new iPad Air this month. The launch is expected to be in the latter half of this month. According to Gurman, the new iPad Air and iPad 11 models are in development and will likely be released separately from the MacBook Air.
The iPad Air is expected to be powered by either the M3 or M4 chip, while the iPad 11 is rumoured to feature either the A16 Bionic or A17 Pro chip. Despite the internal upgrades, neither device is expected to see major design changes. While some had speculated that Apple could announce both the MacBook Air and iPads simultaneously, Gurman’s latest report suggests that the iPads will launch a few weeks later, possibly in late March or early April.
