Apple may soon see an executive-level reshuffle — and the reason may be Siri. This comes shortly after Apple delayed the personalised Siri features that it previewed at WWDC last year. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Vision Pro chief Mike Rockwell is expected to take over the Siri team at the company.
Until now, the Siri team was led by Apple’s artificial intelligence chief John Giannandrea. Apple CEO Tim Cook has apparently “lost confidence” in Giannandrea’s ability to “execute on product development,” the report noted. However, Giannandrea will remain at the company for now to oversee artificial intelligence research and development in general.
As per the report, Vision Pro hardware engineer Paul Meade will take over Apple’s spatial computing efforts from Rockwell. This will allow Rockwell to devote his full attention to Siri, the report claimed.
In his new role leading the Siri team, Rockwell will report to Apple’s software engineering chief, Craig Federighi. The report also added that the company is expected to announce this executive reshuffle to employees later this week.
What Apple’s Siri boss said on AI delays
Recently, Apple’s senior director for Siri, Robby Walker, described the delays to key AI features as “ugly” and “embarrassing” during an all-hands meeting.
The features, meant to enhance Siri by using personal data for better query responses, were prematurely promoted in June 2024 for the iPhone 16 but now remain postponed indefinitely due to unreliable performance—working properly only 66% to 80% of the time.
Walker noted that other projects have taken higher priority, and although the team is targeting iOS 19 for a potential release, no firm shipping date has been set.
Additionally, internal tensions surfaced between the Siri division and marketing, which had pushed to promote the unready features.
