One of the most revolutionary games in the past decade was Flappy Bird, and after being removed from the mobile platform over ten years now, it is making a comeback for Android, iOS, and PC. However, its original creator, Dong Nguyen, has since denied his involvement in this upcoming release, further revealing that he does not support cryptocurrency amidst rumors of the new game being a crypto scam.
Despite this denial from the original designer of the iconic arcade-style action game, it is still making its fated return, and many hope that it is for good.
Flappy Bird Creator Denies Supporting Crypto, But Why?
Dong Nguyen broke his silence amidst the return of the game he created in 2011, Flappy Bird, and part of his latest statement stresses the fact that he does not “support crypto.” This was because, amidst the announcement of the game’s return, multiple users have spotted on Flappy Bird‘s website that there is a cryptocurrency that will be tied to the game in its launch (via Insider Gaming).
According to its website, it will be built on Solana’s blockchain and will utilize web 3.0.
This led to many believing that this game will be masquerading as a crypto scam, particularly since the game has been easily copied before, and most fake games promoting cryptocurrencies are fraudulent.

No, I have no related with their game. I did not sell anything.
I also don’t support crypto.

Nguyen is Also Not Part of Flappy Bird’s Return
While the game is not a crypto scam and is set to be a legit return of Flappy Bird, Nguyen is still distancing himself from its return.
Kek, a founding member of the Flappy Bird Foundation, is leading the game’s return to the gaming industry. The company is best known for developing Piou Piou vs. Cactus, a game that drew comparisons to Flappy Bird.
Nguyen did not sell the rights to Flappy Bird, but due to inactivity on the franchise, his rights lapsed only this year, hence the game’s return.
Flappy Bird and its Connections to Crypto
It was in February 2014 when Dong Nguyen announced on Twitter (now X) that he was set to shut down Flappy Bird and remove it from mobile gaming platforms after an overwhelming run. However, it did not fully die (in spirit) asthere have been multiple developers who have copied what essentially made the game popular, with copycats filling in its absence.
Moreover, the gaming industry was not the only one to have copied Nguyen’s massively famous game, as the crypto and NFT industry’s boom earlier this decade also saw several projects behind this. A metaverse experience released by DeezNuts released a play-to-earn game called Flappy Sack, and it is in the play style of Flappy Bird but entails a non-fungible token (NFT) for users.
With its addictive play style and unique experiences, Flappy Bird has been remade into different titles and has since been tied to cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based games over the past years. The game’s fated return more than a decade later is nearing its launch, but Nguyen is clarifying to the world that he is not involved with this, further denying his support for cryptocurrency.
