On September 9, at the “It’s Glowtime” event, Apple is most likely to introduce the iPhone 16 series, which will be accompanied by a new Watch Series 10, and a couple of accessories. The event will be primarily focused on the iPhone 16 series, which, just like the iPhone 15 series, is said to include four different models — iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
If you are someone who is looking forward to the upcoming iPhones, here is everything we know so far about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 series:
Four different iPhones, in four different sizes
Every iPhone 16 model will have a different screen size, with the iPhone 16 being the smallest of the lot, featuring a 6.1-inch screen. Next comes the iPhone 16 Pro, the first Apple smartphone with a 6.3-inch screen, then the iPhone 16 Plus with a 6.7-inch screen, and lastly the iPhone 16 Pro Max with a massive 6.9-inch screen.
Like their predecessor, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will continue to offer a 60Hz refresh rate OLED panel, while the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Similar industrial design as their predecessor
The industrial design of the iPhone 16 series will be similar to that of its predecessor. According to leaks, the iPhone 16 and the 16 Plus are likely to be available in Black, White, Green, Yellow, Pink, Blue, and Purple featuring a glass back and an aluminium frame.
The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be available in Black Titanium, White Titanium, Gray Titanium, and Gold Titanium featuring a glass back and a titanium frame. Unlike their predecessors, the titanium frame on the iPhone 16 Pro series is said to have a glossy finish, similar to the iPhone 14 Pro.
iPhone 16 series to use the same A18 chip
Unlike the iPhone 15 series, which used different chips for pro and non-pro models, the entire iPhone 16 series is said to be powered by the A18 chip. The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max are likely to pack a speed-binned A18 Pro, possibly with a higher CPU clock speed and more GPU cores, which will be slightly faster than the A18 chip on the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, and both processors are expected to be fabricated by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) using its cutting-edge 3nm manufacturing process.
Besides the new chip, all four iPhone 16 variants are likely to come equipped with at least 8 GB RAM, primarily to support Apple Intelligence. This time around, both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to start at 256 GB of storage and might go up to 2 TB on the high-end variants, while the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus will still start at 128 GB and will go up to 512 GB.
iPhone 16 Pro series to get a new ultra-wide-angle lens
The iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus are expected to pack similar camera hardware as their predecessor, while the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to receive an upgraded ultra-wide-angle lens with 48 MP resolution. On top of that, the iPhone 16 Pro, just like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, will receive a new telephoto camera with 5x optical zooming capabilities.
The new vertically aligned cameras on the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus are said to be capable of recording spatial videos with support for 3D playback on Apple Vision. The video recording capability is still expected to be limited to 4K resolution but could offer a higher bit-rate recording with more stable footage.
A new capture button and a bigger action button
It looks like rumours of Apple launching a button-less iPhone are quite far away, as instead of removing buttons, Apple is actually adding a couple of them with the iPhone 16 series, which will receive a bigger action button, which was first introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro, along with a capture button, to help users capture photos on their iPhone like they do on a digital camera.
Apple Intelligence across the board
Thanks to the new A18 chip on the entire lineup, all four variants of the iPhone 16 are expected to support Apple Intelligence, which is missing out on the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus. On top of that, Apple could also introduce some new Apple Intelligence features that could be limited to the iPhone 16 series, and all four models will ship with iOS 18 but might have to wait for a few months to experience Apple Intelligence, which will be introduced with a future iOS 18.1 software update, suggests Bloomberg.
iPhone 16 Pro Max has the biggest battery ever featured on an iPhone
According to a report by OvO Baby Sauce on Weibo, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have the biggest battery (4676 mAh) capacity ever featured on an iPhone, while the iPhone 16 Plus will include a 4,006 mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the battery on the iPhone 15 Plus. Lastly, the iPhone 16 will have a 3,561 mAh battery while the iPhone 16 Pro packs an even smaller 3,355 mAh battery, which could help Apple make it thinner and lighter.
