Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series will bring major upgrades in design, performance, and cameras.
iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max Design
One of the biggest surprises is the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air, which could be the thinnest iPhone ever – measuring between 5mm and 6.25mm in thickness. It’s expected to feature a 6.6-inch screen, placing it between the Pro and Pro Max in size. The Pro models will shift from titanium to aluminium with a part-glass, part-metal back. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 will retain its classic look but get a tougher anti-reflective, scratch-resistant coating.
All four models are expected to come with a 120Hz ProMotion display and Always-On feature – something previously limited to Pro models. Apple is also redesigning the camera layout. The iPhone 17 Air will have a single-lens camera inside a horizontal module, while the Pro models will feature a new rectangular aluminium camera bar instead of the square-shaped bump.

Under the hood, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will run on Apple’s A19 chip, while the Pro and Pro Max models will be powered by the A19 Pro for superior performance. The iPhone 17 series will also see a RAM upgrade – 8GB for the standard and Air variants, and 12GB for the Pro models.
The biggest camera upgrade comes to the Pro models, which will sport a triple 48MP setup – Wide, Ultra-Wide, and Telephoto lenses. The new 48MP telephoto camera has an 85mm equivalent lens, aimed at capturing better portrait shots. While optical zoom drops to 3.5x from last year’s 5x, Apple is expected to offer 7x “lossless” digital zoom through in-sensor cropping.
The standard iPhone 17 and Air will include a single 48MP rear camera, and the entire lineup is getting an upgraded 24MP front camera.

Apple could launch the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max between September 11–13, 2025.
