Lenovo has taken a step toward sustainable computing by unveiling a solar-powered concept laptop at MWC 2025. This concept laptop is designed to harness renewable energy for on-the-go productivity and promises to redefine mobile computing with eco-friendly power solutions, setting a new benchmark for energy efficiency in the tech industry. In addition to this, Lenovo also announced its latest Yoga and IdeaPad AI laptops, along with new software and accessories that enhance creativity and productivity. Here are all the details about the concept laptop:
Lenovo Yoga Solar PC concept: What we know so far
The Yoga Solar PC proof of concept is designed for users who transform any space—indoors or outdoors—into a productive workspace. This device takes a step in that direction by featuring a solar panel with a conversion rate of over 24%, a notable figure within the industry.
This conversion rate is achieved using ‘Back Contact Cell’ technology, which relocates mounting brackets and gridlines to the rear of the solar cells to improve active absorption. The Dynamic Solar Tracking system continuously monitors the solar panel’s current and voltage, working with the Solar-First Energy system to automatically adjust the charger’s settings so that the harvested energy is directed efficiently to the system, supporting steady energy use and system stability regardless of light intensity. Even in low-light conditions, the panel can still generate power, helping to maintain battery charge when the PC is idle.
At 15mm thin and weighing 1.22kg, the thin and light Yoga Solar PC Concept is the world’s first ultra-slim solar-powered PC, the company claims. With this concept laptop, Lenovo aims to combine functionality with environmental awareness for a future where renewable energy and innovation work together.
Commenting on concept laptop, Jun Ouyang, Lenovo’s senior VP and general manager of the consumer segment, intelligent devices group said: “As we push the limits of AI innovation higher than ever, it is important to remember that delivering access to AI for all is equally a core tenet of Lenovo’s philosophy. Likewise, as we endeavor to redefine the boundaries of power in technology, we must ensure that it continues to be a positive force.”
