Sunrise and Studio Khara have more good news to share with Gundam fans. While Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- is busy taking over theaters, Prime Video has announced exclusive streaming rights to the premiere of the main TV series, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX.
Via a press release, the upcoming show is set to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video simultaneously in Japan and 240 other countries worldwide, with the premiere set for Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Episodes of the anime series will then be made available weekly as the series airs, with each episode available to watch in both English subtitled and English dubbed versions.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Anime Series Finds Exclusive Streaming Home
With the success that the Beginning movie has been having in theaters, it’s no surprise that GQuuuuuuX is highly anticipated among Gundam fans. The series is set to take an alternate timeline spin on the original Universal Century timeline, in which Char and the Principality of Zeon emerged victorious in the One Year War. Needless to say, revisiting the fan-favorite timeline has created plenty of excitement among long-time franchise fans.
Prime Video’s official synopsis for the series reads: “Amate Yuzuriha, a high school girl who lives a peaceful life in a space colony floating in space, meets Nyaan, a war refugee girl, and gets caught up in the illegal mobile suit dueling competition ‘Clan Battle.’ Using the entry name ‘MACHU’ Amate pilots a GQuuuuuuX and throws herself into fierce battles every day. At the same time, an unidentified Mobile Suit ‘Gundam,’ pursued by both the space army and the police, and its pilot, a boy named Shuuji, appears before her. And the world is about to enter a new era.”

While the collaboration between Sunrise and Studio Khara is a major milestone in its own right, the members of the team assembled from the two anime studios to work on GQuuuuuuX is particularly noteworthy. Director Kazuya Tsurumaki was also behind the Rebuild of Evangelion films, as well as the original OAV run of FLCL. “I am honored to serve as the director for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, the latest installment in the long-running Mobile Suit Gundam series,” Tsurumaki stated. “FLCL was enjoyed by many fans overseas, which brought me great joy. Now, after all these years, I am truly delighted to be able to present this new title through digital streaming. I sincerely hope audiences around the world will watch and enjoy it.”
The series’ writing is being handled jointly by Yoji Enokido, who has also worked on the Rebuild of Evangelion movies as well as Bungo Stray Dogs, alongside original Neon Genesis Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno himself. GQuuuuuuX‘s mechanical designs are likewise being handled by an Evangelion alumnus, Ikuto Yamashita. Keisuke Oishi, Country Manager of Prime Video Japan, said of the GQuuuuuuX streaming announcement, “Following our successful global streaming of acclaimed anime works like Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time and the theatrical anime Look Back, we are thrilled to present Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX to our Prime members in this milestone year—celebrating 46 years since the birth of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise and the 30th anniversary of the Evangelion franchise.”
The Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX anime TV series will begin streaming via Prime Video on April 8, 2025. Its edited compilation movie, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, is currently playing in U.S. theaters.
