To ensure smooth connectivity at the upcoming Oktoberfest celebrations, Vodafone is upgrading the entire festival site with additional mobile communications infrastructure. A total of 75 antennas at 22 locations will ensure stable data connections in Vodafone’s LTE and 5G network, providing reliable mobile communication and fast internet for the expected visitors.
During the 2022 Oktoberfest, the data volume reached 120 terabytes, and in 2023, it increased to 160 terabytes. For 2024, Vodafone expects a further increase of more than 30 percent, potentially exceeding 200 terabytes. After the successful introduction of 5G in 2022, the Oktoberfest network has almost completely transitioned to 5G.
According to the operator, collaboration with tent operators and organizers is essential to integrate the network seamlessly into the festival, ensuring maximum enjoyment for attendees. Vodafone’s network also prioritizes emergency calls – calls to emergency services always take precedence, ensuring that help can reach those in need quickly.

Last year showed us that people are no longer just sharing photos from the festival grounds, but are increasingly sharing high-resolution videos with their friends and on social media. This trend has already led to a new data record in 2023. We assume that the mobile networks will have even more to do this year and have therefore activated even more LTE and 5G antennas.
Manfred Freiberger, Site Manager, Vodafone
We no longer have multi-band antennas at the Oktoberfest. Instead, we are relying on broadband antennas and 5G across the board. The infrastructure that would normally take us six months to set up, we set up in just six weeks.
